John Wayne wore this look in several movies. If you want to match a
particular movie like the Train Robbers you should specify.

The Train Robbers hat had the ribbon band under the cav. officer
cord and it also had a leather thong stampede string. The train
robbers brim was also flatter.

Hondo, played by John Wayne, is one of the best classic western
movies of all time. This is John Wayne at his best. Hondo Lane was a
tough, part Indian, ex cavalry scout with that John Wayne
independent character.

The Hondo hat is similar to some of John Wayne's other hats. Being
a pinch front crown with a cavalry cord. A distinction on the Hondo
hat is that the brim is not so flat as most others. The brim rolls up
on the sides a little and it dips more front and back. There is a
slight "V" shape in the dip of the brim in front. Also the pinch is
actually closer on the Hondo than some other John Wayne hats.

We usually use a reproduction of the officer hat cord from the
1800s. The historically correct cord is black and gold; and I mean
gold, not yellow. John Wayne as Hondo, or just about every other
John Wayne cavalry character, had sweat and dust stains so heavy
that you cannot see what color the cord really is. I don't recall
hearing what Hondo's rank was as a scout but John Wayne was an
officer in every western/cavalry movie I ever saw. However if you
prefer you can choose the 1889 enlisted cavalry cord as shown on
the Clint Eastwood or Outlaw Josey Wales hat. Either one looks
much better stained and dirty looking to be appropriate for a
rugged John Wayne hat.

We have a dwindling supply of the Resistol felt, in 4x, and the
special on Resistol 6x is nearly gone, but the most water repellent.
