John Wayne wore a similar hat in "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" and to a slightly
lesser extent "Fort Apache". The shape and condition of the hat in Rio Grande in
the most extreme. John Wayne wore his brim turned up in front in most scenes,
but not all. In Fort Apache John Wayne wore the brim mostly dipped a little in front
with a slight curl up in the back. All is your choice.
John Wayne's hat was formed on a 7" open crown (before creasing) as is shown.
Many prefer a slightly lower crown which is also available. Our supply of the 7"
crown Resistols is limited, so do not hesitate if that's what you want. The finished
height is about 5 3/4" vs. 5 1/4".
